KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday registered 699 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the country to 75,185, according to a statement from the Health Ministry carried by Kuwait News Agency.

The ministry also announced five more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19, bringing the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country to 494.

There are 115 patients receiving treatment in intensive care units, the ministry said.

The ministry also said it conducted 4,576 additional coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of tests done so far in the country to 552,581.

Earlier in the day, the ministry said that 641 more patients have recovered over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries from the deadly disease in the country to 66,740.

On Thursday, the Kuwaiti Cabinet gave a go-ahead for the implementation of the fourth phase of the return to normality plan, allowing some of the activities slated for the fifth and final phase.

Kuwait has recently set into motion a plan for a gradual return to normal life.
