The UAE has topped 121 indicators globally and 479 regionally in 2020, even as the world fights the Covid-19 pandemic. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted: "2020 has been an exceptional year for the UAE: The year of Mars, nuclear power, peace and global competitiveness. In crises, we double achievements."

He was referring to the launch of the Hope probe to Mars - the Arab world's first interplanetary mission; and the successful operation of the first peaceful nuclear energy reactor in the Arab world, at Barakah Nuclear Energy Stations in Abu Dhabi.

"The UAE's competitiveness is continuously improving even during the year 2020, when the world is witnessing a pandemic.

"This is our message to all people living inside or outside the country: The UAE knows no other way of development other than continuously better itself. Taking a back seat is not an option," the UAE Vice-President said.

Sheikh Mohammed congratulated His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Members of the Supreme Council for such great achievements. "This is due to the great efforts of thousands of teams working in all sectors," he added.

This came as Sheikh Mohammed chaired a Cabinet meeting, where four new federal structures for Ministries of Economy, Culture, Energy and Industry were approved. The cabinet also approved new laws to improve private education in the country.
