The UAE’s unstable weather continues to cause major disruptions for travelers arriving and departing in Dubai on Sunday.

As of 8:42 am, at least 32 flights were cancelled and 104 more were delayed, according to Dubai Airports’ flight tracker. Some arriving flights were delayed for more than one hour to three hours.

A spokesperson for UAE-based carrier Emirates airline told Zawya that the flight delays and cancellations are expected until today, January 12, 2020.

Passengers who are scheduled to fly out of Dubai today have been advised to head to the airport at least three hours in advance and to continue checking with their respective airlines for any flight changes.

“Customers affected by flight cancellations are automatically rebooked on the next available flight, and onward connections if applicable,” Emirates said in an advisory.

“Customers are being contacted and sent their updated booking to the email address registered with Emirates at the time of booking,” the airline added.

Dubai Airports confirmed late Saturday that operations at Dubai International were hampered by the “knock-on effects of waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall.”

“The disruption is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. Accordingly, customers are advised to check directly with their airlines for more specific flight information and allow additional time to get to the airport,” the authority said Saturday evening.

The UAE’s National Center of Meteorology has notified that rains and fresh winds that will cause blowing dust and poor visibility are expected today. Warnings have been raised in various locations across the country, advising the public to be on the lookout for “hazardous weather.”
