AMMAN The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) has won four Asian Power Awards in 2019. NEPCO has received the best solar power project award for its Green Corridor project to transfer power generated in the southern Kingdom to the grid and the southern area.

NEPCO Director General Amjad Rawashdeh expressed hopes that that the Green Corridor project, funded by the European Investment Bank and the French Development Agency, will boost the grids capacity by an additional 800-1,000 megawatts, and begin operations by the end of the year.

Gold for the Oil Shale Power Project of 2019 and silver for the Transmission and Distribution Project of 2019 have also been awarded to NEPCO for implementing Attarat Project 400 KV, aimed at producing electricity from oil shale in the Attarat Umm Ghadran region. The fourth award, Power Utility of 2019, also went to NEPCO, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
