The contract included four substations with a capacity of 400/132/11 kilovolt (kV) in Sothern Iraq, namely Al-Amara Governorate, Samawa Governorate, Al-Nasiriya Governorate, and Al-Basra Governorate, as well as 12 mobile GIS substations with a capacity of 132/33 kV, according to a statement on Monday.
Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) manufactured all GIS switchgear and high voltage transformers, while the equipment for 132/33kV mobile substations was produced by Meidensha Corporation. The substations have a planned capacity to generate electricity for about 1.3 million households.
Elsewedy Electric designed and built the 400/132/11kV GIS substations.
Currently, Elsewedy Electric is in a consortium with Toyota Tsusho Corporation, building New Babil 400/132 kV substation, under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) finance.
"Completing five major challenging projects to the esteemed Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in five years while progress is ongoing in New Babil substation targeting 2022 spring reflects our strong commitment towards Iraq infrastructure development," Ahmed Elsewedy, President and CEO of Elsewedy Electric, said.
