The 10-day interactive educational experience inspired parents, children and students on a journey into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths

Doha, 30 November 2015

'Energy World - Qatar 2015' successfully concluded on Saturday with more than 22,000 visitors participating in the 10-day interactive educational experience.

Held for the first time in Qatar and the MENA region, 'Energy World - Qatar 2015' took people of all ages on an exciting journey into the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The event featured a lively mix of physical and digital exhibits, workshops and science shows encouraging everyone to 'explore, make and learn.'

Over 5000 students, from 120 schools across Qatar attended 'Energy World - Qatar 2015' to explore and learn more about STEM in a fun and innovative way. The event challenged students with fun STEM-themed interactive activities and innovative energy questions to discover what type of innovator they are - Designer, Engineer, Connector, Inventor or Adventurer!

Tamim Al Tamimi, a student at the English Modern School said: "I have had lots of fun at 'Energy World - Qatar 2015', my favourite zone was the kinetic exercise floor because it helped me understand how much energy can be generated from movement. When I grow up I want to be either an engineer or an architect, but after visiting 'Energy World - Qatar 2015' I've found out that I have the characteristics of an engineer."

Mashary Al Saie, a local parent visiting with his family commented saying: "At first I thought 'Energy World - Qatar 2015' was only for children; but after the second zone I found myself joining in, learning more about STEM in a fun way and discovered that I am a designer! I am very happy that I brought my family to this event; it has allowed me to discover more about my children's interests and potential.   I would like to thank the organisers for hosting this unique event in Doha. We have also developed a new appreciation for energy, and from now on we will make a conscious effort to conserve it."

Commenting on the success of 'Energy World - Qatar 2015', Rob Sherwin, General Manager Corporate Affairs and Deputy Country Chairman of Shell companies in Qatar said: "We are proud to have brought this world-class science experience to Qatar, which is aimed at encouraging young people to study STEM subjects in higher education. These four subjects are fundamental to Qatar's educational vision to build a prosperous future for the country."

"I am really delighted with the positive feedback we have received from the parents, the teachers and especially the students who were truly excited to learn more about STEM.  We hope these young people were inspired to become the scientists, engineers, technologists, innovators and leaders of tomorrow," added Sherwin.

Hissa Al Hajri, a local student said: "Before 'Energy World - Qatar 2015' I had no idea it took so much energy to produce food, because for me energy was just fuel and electricity, but now I understand the important role energy plays in our everyday lives. My parents have always encouraged me to become a designer, but my dream was always to become an inventor. Going through the journey at 'Energy World - Qatar 2015' has showed me I was right all along, and I am more determined to realise my dream of becoming an inventor! I have visited the exhibition twice and if it is held next year, I will be the first one through the door."

'Energy World - Qatar 2015' was delivered by long-term partners Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Shell, in association with the Qatar Tourism Authority and the Supreme Education Council, with the vision of creating a positive impact in Qatar, in support of the human development and environmental pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.  There was no charge for schools or members of the public to attend 'Energy World - Qatar 2015'.
