Dubai - SAP Middle East and North Africa has donated AED 129,430 (USD 35,238) to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The proceeds came from SAP MENA's Second Annual Charity Fundraising Ball, as part of its corporate social responsibility program, and supported by Dubai's International Humanitarian City (IHC).

"With the highest number of worldwide refugees since the end of WWII, we are committed to helping UNHCR aid refugees in the region," said Sam Alkharrat, President, SAP MENA. "And we will continue to support the region's charities, agencies, NGOs, and youth programs to drive positive change."

UNHCR is the United Nations agency that is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide.

"On behalf of UNHCR, I would like to convey my sincere appreciation to SAP MENA for hosting this Charity Fundraising Gala. This generous gesture highlights our strategic partnership, and is a true demonstration of SAP MENA's humanitarian commitment. UNHCR will use the funds to provide much needed education for Syrian refugee children," said Nisreen Rubaian, Acting Head of Office, UNHCR Abu Dhabi.

IHC is the world's largest and busiest logistics hub for humanitarian aid, helping the United Nations and organizations to aid victims and families of crises.

"Our support to the UNHCR and SAP MENA activity comes in line with the IHC's "Partner: Humanity" platform to establish regional leader in CSR advisory, and organize private sector events to reinforce the IHC role as a connector and facilitator of humanitarian work in the private sector," said Shaima Al Zarooni, CEO, IHC.

The Charity Ball was led by employee volunteers, and was attended by more than 400 customers, partners, and employees with key customer, partner and extended business sponsors contributing to the spirit of SAP's core mission to help the world run better.
