Australian actress Nicole Kidman is to star in a virtual reality film produced by Abu Dhabi carrier Etihad Airways, it was announced on Monday. The film, which gives users a tour of the carrier's Airbus A380 superjumbo, will be the first time a Hollywood star has featured in a virtual reality film, the airline claimed in a press statement.

A trailer of the film is set to be unveiled at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) conference and exhibition, which starts in Dubai today. The film was produced using Google Cardboard technology and is viewed using Samsung Gear headsets.

"The VR film is the latest example of Etihad Airways' on-going commitment to adopting cutting-edge digital technologies to reimagine the way we engage with our guests and how we communicate our innovations," Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways' chief commercial officer, said in a press statement.

The Australian actress was unveiled as a brand ambassador for Etihad Airways in March last year and fronted their 'Flying Reimagined' global marketing campaign.
