Hussam Technology Company (HTC), an ICT system integration company alumnus of TKM (The Knowledge Mine), was recently awarded the ISO 9001:2008 certificate by Bureau Veritas. Dr. Firas Al-Abduwani, Founder and CEO of Hussam Technology Company, noted that HTC was founded with the vision of providing alternative cutting-edge cost-effective solutions and private networks with the aim of contributing to the development of the Sultanate's ICT infrastructure. This was to be done in line with the existing regulatory framework while continually working to further push the frontiers of the regulatory framework by diligently tracking developments in the global market, and selectively introducing solutions not yet implemented in the Sultanate which are pertinent to it, and in line with HTC's core business.

The ICT infrastructure of any country or establishment is its nervous system and it impacts many functions such as the economy, logistics, productivity, data protection, among others. "The data transmission and networking field is one where leaps and bounds of evolution and updates happen frequently. Different countries and establishments progress in their adoption of these developments in technologies at different paces, depending on factors such as the need for such adoption, commercial limitations, regulatory limitations, and infrastructure limitations," Al-Abduwani pointed out.

Al-Abduwani emphasised that The Knowledge Mine (TKM) previously, and currently the National Business Centre (NBC) is playing an important role in various aspects. "One of the key benefits that TKM endowed us with was exposure. The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), represented by the TKM, conducted many events for different business segments. Of the different slots allocated for presentation and event moderation; some were made available to TKM incubations. This provided us with the local exposure of what we are trying to do. The other contributions TKM offered were the courses they provided. Extremely valuable also was the camaraderie established between the incubation companies themselves. We were all very supportive of each other, and it was reinvigorating to see others determinedly follow their visions and dreams. TKM was certainly one of the key entities supporting SMEs. In my perspective, it was geared up to support a certain category of SMEs. As the ICT market diversifies I see NBC increasing its capabilities in supporting the incubating SMEs," he said.

It should be noted that HTC established its operations in 2005. HTC with its portfolio of ICT products and solutions from leading vendors thrives to provide the market with innovative services and solutions that meet customers evolving needs. With a team of extensively trained professionals, HTC has the knowledge and expertise that enables it to offer a wide range of ICT solutions. In addition to the standard ICT offerings of routing, switching, cabling, CCTV and standard software supply, HTC excels in the following domains: turnkey wireless; network monitoring and service level management; Optical transmission and testing; and purpose-built software solutions for radio planning, fiber planning and NMS. HTC's accolades include being the first Oman-TRA approved FSO and MMW contractor in the Sultanate with the majority market share, the first implementer of SLA solutions for private networks using NIDs, the first wireless mesh importer and installer in the Sultanate of Oman. HTC is also the designer and implementer of Oman's first private DWDM network for a company in the Sultanate's private sector - Orpic. Among HTC's customer in the Sultanate of Oman, the UAE and Kingdom of Bahrain are: Ooredoo Oman, Etisalat, Tatweer Petroleum, BankMuscat, Oxy, Orpic, MedcoEnergy, Oman Arab Bank, Bank Dhofar, University of Nizwa, DHL, and Daman.

Al-Abduwani conveyed his belief that undergoing the ISO 9001:2008 certification process had many benefits including; standardising the internal processes of the different divisions within the company and documenting them in a centralised management system. This had the effect of greater delegation of authority, empowerment to the staff, and increases in efficiency and job satisfaction, which directly benefits the customers as well who ultimately are the key focus of the company.

The ISO certification audit process yielded personal benefits to Al-Abduwani. Since this audit process took place a few weeks before the launch of the National CEO Program, it sharpened HTC's vision and rallied its staff around its goals and empowered them. Tangible examples of such improvements were at his fingertips which Al-Abduwani believes played a positive role in the answers he provided during the interviews carried out during the selection process of the program.

Al-Abduwani is grateful for the opportunity of being enrolled into The National CEO Program and is determined to make the best of it to further improve himself to further contribute to the Sultanate and to HTC.
