Egis, a leading international group in the construction engineering services sector, said it has played a key role in the AlShuqaiq-3, an independent water project (IWP) from the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), by providing site supervision and contract management services.

Located on the Red Sea Coast in the town of Shuqaiq, the new reverse osmosis (RO) facility with a 450,000 cu m capacity was officially inaugurated under the patronage of the Governor of the Jazan Province, Prince Muhammad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz and Abdulrahman AlFadley, Minister of Environment and Water.
Egis was appointed by SWPC for the design review, site supervision and contract management of Al Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant which uses reverse osmosis producing a capacity of 450,000 cu m of fresh water on a daily basis and incorporates a low power consumption of 3.5kWhr/ cu m.
On the work completion, Laure Russier, Middle East Director (Water, Ports, Energy, Environment and Major Structures) said: "We at Egis are proud to be part of such a sustainable and innovative project which is aligned to both ours and Saudi Vision 2030."

"With over 60 years of experience in the water sector, we are pleased to be part of this project, which will supply more than 1.8 million people with drinking water, addressing one of the key challenges of our planet, particularly in this region where water is a scarce resource due to the extreme dry conditions," he added.
Al Shuqaiq 3 Desalination Plant is recognised as one of the most complex and innovative plants of its kind and has won the “Utilities Project of the Year” award at the Middle East Energy Awards 2019, making it one of the flagship new infrastructure projects in the region.

Emphasising the success of the project by Egis, Project Manager Mohammad Alsulymani said: "The project successfully completed 9,281,729 safe man-hours with Zero LTI."
"It successfully dispatched water on October 10, 2021, earlier than expected, and was commercially operational by January 9," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
