Second United Nation's Real Estate International Committee meeting underway in Dubai

Dubai, UAE, January 25, 2015: Best practice in global property development is the topic under discussion at a major international forum being hosted by Dubai Land Department (DLD). The subject is being explored at the second meeting of the United Nation's Real Estate International Committee for Best Practices in Real Estate, which is currently underway at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai.

Taking place from January 26-27, 2015, the two-day forum is the latest instalment from the Real Estate International Committee, which has been formulated to examine methods of improving property development activities across the globe. Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI), the educational arm of DLD, was selected to host the event after becoming of the committee's 15 key members in recognition of its leading expertise in its field. It follows a visit by representatives of the department to the committee's inaugural forum, which was held last year at the UN headquarters in New York.

"We are proud to hold this second ever Real Estate International Committee for Best Practices in Real Estate - our selection as hosts of the event is an acknowledgment of both Dubai's leading position in the international real estate sector and of DLD's advanced knowledge of sustainable property development," said Sultan Buti Bin Mejren, Director General of DLD, member of the Real Estate International Committee for Best Practices and head of the hosting committee. "The meetings today and tomorrow will demonstrate DLD's experience in this sector, with 140 registered attendees having travelled from around the world to listen to our expertise," he added.

DLD's leadership says that the Real Estate International Committee meetings will add to the organisation's value and contribute to raising its stature globally through its sponsorship of the best real estate practices and its engagement in a strategic partnership with the United Nations.

"This important event, which is being held under the auspices of the DREI, will see the committee's work presented in the form of a guide for local and international experts on the best practice in real estate. These experts will be consulted on their opinions before the guide is adopted in June 2015 as an accredited United Nations' book. The committee will also prepare a two-year project to formulate best practices in the real estate industry and construction," said Mahmoud Al Burai, Director of DREI.

"As part of our mission, DREI will teach these practices and include them in our curriculum in order to create distinctive competencies that contribute to the development of a world-class real estate market. We hope to be able to consolidate the world's best real estate practices and apply them in the Middle East, through a comprehensive understanding of the commission's outputs," added Al Burai.

DREI is the only organisation from the MENA region selected to participate in the membership of the committee, underscoring DLD's position as a global model in performance and standard-setting. DREI's successive achievements over the years have established its name as a leading educational institution in property development. The organisation has trained nearly 30,000 property professionals to date and has been instrumental in contributing to raising the level of professionalism and transparency in Arab real estate markets.
