On the sidelines of COMEX, the region's leading ICT trade fair, a two-day COMEX conference on Big Data, Cloud and ICT Infrastructure for the public sector and private businesses began at the Golden Tulip today. This was an unique knowledge initiative introduced by OITE Trade Fairs to facilitate discussion and knowledge transfer for exhibitors and attendees.

The opening remarks were made by Abdullah Hamood Khalid Al Barwani, Director General of Infrastructure, Infrastructure Division of the Information Technology Authority(ITA) followed by a keynote address on the subject of 'Shrinking Big Data' by Simon Field, Executive Partner, Gartner.

The next session was on ITA G-Cloud, where a case study was shared by Khaldi Al Rahbi, Manager for Cloud Initiatives (ITA). FTTH - future-proof technology for solid ICT infrastructure was presented by Dr. Suleiman Al- Hedaithy, Chairman, FTTH Council MENA.

Other topics covered included IBM Verse, Data Embassy Concept and how the Internet and Smart Services would change society. These sessions were conducted by regional experts from IBM, Nortal and SAP respectively.

The second part of day one of the conference focused on the evaluation of diverse applications and analytics. Chairperson remarks were delivered by Dr. Ali Al Shidhani, Director of ICT Research, The Research Council (TRC), Oman.

The ensuing sessions covered Big Data and Cloud as a vehicle for innovation and progress in the Gulf region, cutting edge tools for e-justice and the emergence of converged infrastructure for Cloud and Analytics.

The second day of the conference will continue to explore topics such as boosting cross-industry productivity through ICT enabled insights; Big Data for modernising the Health care sector. The conference will conclude with the concluding session on Big Data and Cloud - An overview, deployment strategy and Public-Private applications.
