Bahrain’s Gulf Air will resume international flights to India next week, it has been confirmed.
The national carrier said on Sunday that direct services to and from India, starting with Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Cochin and Calicut, will kick off tomorrow, September 14.
The airline said it has plans to add more Indian destinations to its network soon.
“The flights are operating based on a special agreement between the governments of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of India,” Gulf Air said in a statement.
Bahrain is one of the first few countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to shut its borders to international visitors early this year as part of precautionary measures to stem the spread of coronavirus.
As early as February 25, Bahrain ordered the suspension of all flights coming from Dubai and Sharjah. Flights to and from other global destinations were subsequently suspended.
The country’s national carrier has recently gradually resumed international flights. It currently flies to and from London, Paris, Frankfurt, Manila, Athens, Cairo, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait, Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
