UAE - Akar, a leading landscape contractor in the GCC region, has successfully completed the Palm Oasis Park Project valued at Dh24 million. The park will help increase ecological footprint of Dubai that is witnessing the plantation of 27 million seedlings around buildings and junctions to improve environment.
Dubai is spending Dh6 billion to develop 12,000 hectares of urban greenery including 9 public parks at a cost of Dh77 million - that will increase the supply of oxygen and help environment, according to the official announcement by Dubai Municipality at the fourth edition of the Middle East Smart Landscape Summit-2016.
The Palm Oasis Project will welcome visitors this summer -- completed on schedule, it was launched in Q1 of 2016 -- and adds 7.5 hectares of green space to the city, largely in the form of artificial lakes, cafeteria, playgrounds for children with special needs, a Pergola with a Barasti among many. In addition, the Palm Oasis Park brings together an unrivalled mix of 39 varieties of date palm trees, carefully gathered from all the seven Emirates to be housed in one park.
With an eco-friendly theme, the park has been designed to make use of solar energy to power up its lighting system. A total of 1,240 palm trees were planted in the park, in addition to 60 ornamental trees and 32,979 ornamental shrubs.

About The Palm Oasis Park
Palm Oasis Park is designed in the shape of a "Palm", which symbolizes the local environment, and reflects the characteristics of the traditional desert. The park will give visitors a truly Arabian feel inspired by the origins of nomadic life, set in a beautiful oasis, surrounded by an extensive variety of over 39 types of Palm trees. The dates from these trees will be sold in the 'Date Souq' located within the park. Keeping the environment in mind, the Dubai Municipality and the Park's management also plan to use the palm waste to produce local handicrafts with, related to the local heritage.
The park carries a central plaza for various activities, a lake with timber bridges, water features, Falaj with running water, seating areas with antique finish benches spread over the entire park, Pergola with Barasti shades are spread throughout the seating areas, cafeteria and other attractions. The Park will also feature playgrounds for children that are categorised by age group.
The highlight of Palm Oasis Park is that it is considered environmentally friendly in its entirety and will utilise solar energy as its major power source. The Park has installed over 200 solar lights to give it a remarkable appearance, when the sun sets, and is probably the first project of its kind to depend entirely on Solar energy, and hopes that this can inspire future projects to be more energy efficient, environment friendly, and set a good example of utilising resources profitably and in a more sustainable way for all to enjoy.
