Certified full facilities drive service hub to serve customers in the United Arab Emirates and wider GCC region

Dubai, UAE, March 5, 2015 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, opens its drive service workshop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to provide support for customers in all segments including industries, utilities and building automation.

This workshop is one of ABBs 12 global drive service hubs, which will provide repair, reconditioning service and exchange units for low voltage drives to help customers reduce operational costs and meet their growing productivity and reliability objectives, while maintaining high environmental and safety standards.

The opening of this workshop completes the setup of the drive service hub in Dubai and positions ABB to be in the forefront regionally to provide timely, efficient and economical turnaround services, especially for critical drive process applications. This is a commitment to the country and fits with our strategy of developing local capability, said Aki Maenpaa, UAE division manager, Discrete Automation and Motion.

All ABB drive service hubs are equipped with similar set up, processes and tools, with a common set of key performance indicators. One of the main reasons why drives save energy is because they can change the speed of an electrical motor by controlling the power that is fed into the machine.

Its important for drives to be serviced under proper supervision as the number of electronic components associated with it is increasing. Handling of drives and even cleaning requires competent and trained service personnel. Through the opening of the ABB drive service workshop in the UAE, we want to increase awareness for certified service in the region, and continue to tell our customers to insist on original spare parts, said Ari Lassamaki, Head of Global Drive Service.

The Dubai drive service workshop allows customers in the region to benefit from rapid response and locally performed drive repair and reconditioning services, with thorough cleaning and testing processes in state-of-the-art facilities. This new facility allows us to test the repaired drives with load up to 500kW to ensure high field quality when products are delivered to the customer site. Our field service technicians are routinely trained in the latest health and safety practices ensuring top class operational safety, as well, he added.

The opening ceremony was held at ABBs Al Quoz premises and was attended by industry partners, OEMs and customers from various major industries including marine, oil & gas, utilities and electronics sectors. ABB has set up service hubs in major markets to provide a specialized customer call center, technical support, service training, spare parts inventory, highly skilled field service engineers, drive service and repair workshop, and service sales support for the respective regions.
