• Collaboration part of GEMS drive to expand access to education through technology
  • ASU named USA’s number one ‘Most Innovative School’ for six consecutive years

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: GEMS Education today announces a unique collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU), one of the United States’ most digitally-driven universities focused on expanding global access to education and named the number one ‘Most Innovative School’ by US News & World Report for six years running.

Through this new collaboration, GEMS students will get the chance to take rigorous college-level courses taught directly by university faculty and earn college credit – all while still in high school.

The re-imagined online learning experience is highly flexible, and students can design their own tailored pathway, preparing them in advance for university success. GEMS students will also gain valuable university credits, resulting in significant savings in terms of both time and money if they choose to enrol at ASU to earn an undergraduate degree. The earned credit can also potentially be transferred to any accepting university.

ASU’s expanding list of world-class courses are taught by leading experts in their respective fields, and GEMS students will be able to choose from over 20 of ASU’s first-year Universal Learner Courses, such as Accounting for Business, Introduction to Astronomy, Sustainable Engineering, and Computer Science.

ASU is a comprehensive public research university based in Tempe, Arizona. It is rated a top world university by the Center for World University Rankings and ranked #9 in the world for global impact by Times Higher Education.

Sunny Varkey, Chairman and Founder, GEMS Education, said: “Our partnership with ASU is fundamental for us as we strive to be at the forefront of innovation in education globally. We are always looking at ways to bring innovation to the classroom, and use technology to enhance the experience of our students, teachers and parents. Innovation and technology are at the heart of our business as we move forwards.”

Dino Varkey, Group Chief Executive Officer, GEMS Education, said: “We are continuously looking for new ways to enhance the opportunities for our students as we prepare them for the exciting, tech-driven future that awaits them. This partnership with ASU offers our students an innovative way to get the very best and latest expert tuition across a number of exciting areas, giving them a wonderful foundation for their university studies, including all-important course credits.”

Maria Anguiano, Executive Vice President of Learning Enterprise, Arizona State University, said: “ASU is on a mission to design new models for educational access and to raise academic achievement for all learners across the globe. Through this collaboration, GEMS Education students can get a head-start on their university studies through our rigorous online courses designed and delivered using the latest technological innovations.”
