Lebanon: Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), to establish the Huawei ICT Academy for the college’s students in the University’s School of Engineering. The MoU aims at promoting joint cooperation and paves the way for knowledge exchange by providing quality courses and support services for the university experts and students via the Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy program (HAINA).

The MoU was signed by Mr. Ethan Wang, CEO of Huawei Lebanon and Jordan, and Reverend Father Dr. Talal Hachem, President of USEK, in the presence of Dr. Joseph Al Assad, Dean of the School of Engineering at USEK. Under this partnership, Huawei will launch its ICT Academy at USEK to deliver training and certification programs to the instructors and students via the Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy program (HAINA). Huawei will also provide the latest technology equipment and provide Huawei Certification Academy Instructor (HCAI) training for the teachers for each course. Through this collaboration, Huawei and USEK aim to contribute towards the development of Lebanon’s ICT talent ecosystem, in line with the   Lebanon’s Digital Transformation Strategy.

Commenting on this partnership, Mr. Ethan Wang, CEO of Huawei Lebanon and Jordan, said: “We are proud to partner with USEK to bring the Huawei ICT Academy with the aim to nurture and empower the ICT talent ecosystem in Lebanon. We firmly believe that through the Academy, we are able to provide skilled talent for the local ICT industry as it plays a key role in Lebanon’s Digital Transformation Strategy and will contribute to the country’s economic development and digital economy.”

From his side, Reverend Father Talal Hachem, said: "USEK bases its programs on the needs of the professional world and has been following the latest technologies to make sure our curricula are up to date. We are therefore seeking professional certificates to complete the skills portfolio of our students and build sustainable relationships with leading partners. In this regard, Huawei has been leading in the sector of telecommunication, especially the 5th generation, artificial intelligence, artificial reality, and virtual reality, which proves our aim to fortify and amplify our relationship on the level of transfer of knowledge, R&D, training, and employment."

Dr. Joseph Al Assad, Dean of the School of Engineering said: “As a school of engineering our main mission is to equip our students with the skills needed within the job market today and more importantly tomorrow. Therefore, we have been developing several engineering tracks aiming at providing our students with abilities to face tomorrow's challenges with the adequate skills within the fields of artificial intelligence, augmented reality and 5G telecommunications. Our collaboration with Huawei comes in line with our efforts to transform Lebanon into the technological hub of the Middle East exporting services in the different sectors of the knowledge economy instead of exporting youth."

Launched in 2013, the Huawei ICT Academy helps universities cultivate ICT talent that meets industry requirements, providing high-quality workforce for the sector’s development. As a leading global ICT solutions provider, Huawei advocates for an open, shared, ICT talent ecosystem that benefits all parties. Through this initiative, Huawei builds a talent supply chain covering the entire process of learning, certification, and employment—by deepening the cooperation mechanism between universities and enterprises, aiming to promote industry development, and innovate talent development models based on enterprise requirements.
