Muscat, Oman: City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum are the first commercial facilities in Oman to install RASED tracking devices to ensure shopping mall spaces remain virus-free. As COVID-positive patients are asked to wear RASED tracking bracelets and self-quarantine, the use of the state-of-the-art technology is the latest precaution taken at Majid Al Futtaim’s Oman malls to safeguard customers.

Placed at all mall entrances, RASED devices support monitoring and evaluation activities by screening visitors who are not self-quarantining, as instructed by local authorities. The RASED detecting device is powered by similar IoT technology developed by eMushrif that is found in school buses to automatically mark attendance and ensure no child is left on the school bus.

Additionally, all visitors are required to undergo a temperature check with the aid of thermal cameras placed at all entrances before being permitted to the mall. Both City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum have also installed hands-free elevator calling devices to reduce surface contact as much as possible.

Husam Al Mandhari, Director - Shopping Malls - Oman, at Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said: “Our customers’ safety is of the utmost importance. As public retail spaces where the community comes together to spend time with their loved ones or unwind after a long day, our malls are not only expected to entertain shoppers, they are also entrusted with keeping visitors the community safe. We take this responsibility very seriously and are constantly assessing the situation to ensure that we are being proactive and effective in our efforts.”

These smart safety solutions are joined by the implementation of government-mandated measures, including the compulsory use of face masks, to ensure all customers remain safe and healthy.  All malls are also clearly marked with instructional social distancing posters and signage – particularly in and around areas of high footfall, concentrated gathering, and long queues.  Mall wheelchairs are frequently sanitised and retail stores are subject to routine inspections to ensure effective and frequent disinfection is carried out.
