After the successful opening of the University of South Wales (USW) Dubai in September, the University has revealed new courses, to be offered at its Dubai South campus from 2019.

Starting in September 2019, the specialist facility will offer KHDA-approved programmes including: MSc Cyber Security and MSc International Logistics & Supply Chain Management. These two new post-graduate courses perfectly complement the future development needs of the aerospace sector and other strategically important sectors in the UAE, offering the knowledge and skills to work in many business areas across multinational enterprises. With governments and organizations investing more in the cybersecurity of defence and aerospace products and services than ever before, this latest addition with give the future workforce a clear competitive edge. Both programmes will be delivered in a block-mode format which will enable practicing professionals to study whilst working.

These new introductions are in addition to the existing BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering with integrated European Aviation Safety Agency / General Civil Aviation Authority (EASA/GCAA) training, and BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering top-up degree and Foundation course, through which a student can gain the right qualifications to move onto the degree programme.

The purpose-built 3,000 square metre facility at the Dubai South Business Park has state of the art learning and teaching space over two storeys, including an EASA/GCAA accredited workshop with an aircraft and CFM56-3 jet engine, mechanical principles laboratories and soundproofed maintenance areas. Dedicated laboratory space for IT and electronic practical tasks and avionics systems are also a key feature that will provide hands-on practical experience for students, and composite-based equipment to produce sample materials. The tooling has been provided through a strategic partnership with Snap-on Tools Industrial.

Professor Julie Lydon, University of South Wales Vice-Chancellor, said: “The aircraft maintenance courses that USW provides in Dubai are giving students in the region the chance to learn from industry-leading experts in the field, and these additional courses will expand these opportunities for students.

“Our cyber security and international logistics & supply chain expertise is already renowned in the UK whereby we enjoy accreditation from e.g. GCHQ, British Computing Society, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and work with industry leaders including Cisco, Thales and Airbus.

“We will bring this knowledge and experience to Dubai, so that students on these new courses will have access to world-leading skills in these subjects. It is our intention that our industry partnerships will be as strong as they are in the UK reflecting the global developmental needs that these courses seek to address.”
