The Abu Dhabi community will be coming together to break multiple Guinness World Record titles, in a bid to bring the world's attention to the rising need for cancer prevention awareness.

UAE residents and visitors are welcomed to visit Al Hudayriat Island in Abu Dhabi on October 20, to be part of the event and learn about the importance of regular screenings, self-examination, and healthy living.

Coinciding with International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event is organised by VPS Healthcare and Burjeel Medical City, a tertiary care facility specialised in oncology treatment, as part of a joint #HealthIsWealth campaign.

The event is being held in collaboration with partners including the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), the Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Hudayriat Island, Emirates Foundation, Abu Dhabi Media Company, and the Cancer Patient Care Society - Rahma.

The Guinness World Record titles are: The longest awareness ribbon, greatest number of pairs attaching awareness ribbons to each other simultaneously, and most people making and wearing awareness ribbons at the same time.

The event will also be open for the public to engage in a series of live record-breaking attempts, where visitors get to break individual records and get a certificate upon successfully completing the challenge.

The event is set to take place from 3pm until 10pm and will include several family-fun activities featuring food trucks, a fitness challenge, and live music. Official attempts for the records will take place starting 4.30pm until 6pm.

Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, chairman and managing director of VPS Healthcare, said: "Over the years, we actively contributed to the private-public sector efforts to address the subject by raising awareness among the community and further extending VPS' medical offerings and reach through ultra-specialised medical services."

According to the World Health Organisation, breast cancer is the most common cancer type in women; it ranks second in the highest number of new cases recorded every day.

In 2018, more than two million women have been diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide. According to the findings of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), early detection can improve chances of recovery by 98 per cent.

Amir Firdaus, chief executive officer of Burjeel Group, said: "Prevention and early detection are key in addressing the rising number of cancer cases locally and internationally."

#HealthIsWealth is a six-month awareness campaign that will highlight some of the most prevalent and pressing types of cancer globally and in the UAE.

Throughout the breast cancer awareness month of October, VPS is providing free screenings ?and mammograms for women across all Burjeel Hospitals and Medical Centres.
