United Arab Emirates, Sharjah: The Sharjah Labour Development Authority (LSDA) announced the details of the second edition of the Labour Sports Festival, in cooperation with Sharjah Sports Council and Reach Target Co. for Sports and Commitments Services, which will commence on the 28th December and continue until the end of March 2019. The matches will be held every Friday at Sharjah National Park, opposite to Sharjah International Airport, on the morning from 8 am to 11 am, and evening from 3 pm to 6 pm, where the labourer's teams will compete across several sports such as cricket, hockey, football, basketball and volleyball.

The number of teams registered in football and basketball reached 25 teams, while cricket teams reached 35 teams, 12 in volleyball and 18 in hockey.

This was announced at a recent press conference held by the Authority at Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was headed by HE Salem Al Qaseer, Chairman of the Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority, in the presence HE Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Sports Council, and Tariq Salem Al Khanbashi, Founder and CEO of Reach Target Services and Sports Commitments, and Ammar Hassan Al Ali, Chief Inspector at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and HE Khalifa Al Marri, Representative of Sharjah Police General Command, and Fathi Afana - CEO of Fastlink and several other VIPs and dignitaries.

While the second version will witness high attendance and participation of labourers from varied categories, it will also oversee the participation of government employees and private institutional departments in Sharjah.

HE Salem Al Qaseer, Chairman of the Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority, said: "We are very pleased with the success witnessed in the first edition of the Labour Sports Festival, and are confident that the next edition will be equally better. At Sharjah Standards Development Authority, we encourage all the nationalities that make up the segments of labourers residing in Sharjah, to participate in this festival, which will serve as a bridge to increase cooperation, whilst deepen the relationship between labourers and employers, making them more transparent".

HE Salem Al-Qaseer added: "The Labour Sports Festival aims to make sports a lifestyle for the working class, as well as serve as a mechanism to entertain themselves through practicing in various sports they prefer, whilst developing the spirit of competition and desire to gain the first place." He also thanked all those who contributed to the success of the festival and called on all private companies and institutions in Sharjah and the UAE to allow their employees to participate in the events of the festival.

Tariq Salim Al Khanbashi, Founder and Director of Reach Target Co. for Sports and Commitments Services said, “We are delighted to be associated with Labour Sports Festival in Sharjah and hope that we will live up to the faith and confidence of Sharjah Standards Development Authority. As an organization, we are ready to manage the championship in the best possible way with the help of our dedicated teams and seamless processes. While we have started the necessary preparations since months, it is our goal to work and support Sharjah Standards Develop Authority with continuous support that will not only enhance the game of sports, but also serve as a common platform for thousands of athletes to break away from the daily work routine, and achieve greater cooperation among employees working in various companies and institutions of the state. "

Al-Khanbashi added: "The championship will not only be limited to participants in football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and hockey but will also be a meeting point for different people and nationalities from the communities living in the country." 

During the championship, a special area will be provided for ‘fans’, through which a group of games associated with the events will be held. These games are particularly crafted to attract the families of the participants in the championships, in order to enable them to spend enjoyable moments with their families.

In addition, the fans' areas will be equipped with children's games and be supervised by a number of trainers, who will provide special educational training sessions for football, as well as fitness training. These areas will also include individual games such as table tennis and several others. 

On the other hand, HE Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Sports Council, confirmed that the establishment of the Second Labour Sports Festival, which is organised by Sharjah Standards Development Authority in collaboration with the Council and Reach Target Company, is as an extension of the Council's role in developing sports for labourers, which is in line with the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the support of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Chairman of the Executive Council; and the support of Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board.

He stated that the Council appreciates the contribution offered for the festival, where the stadiums of the Council, in addition to the National Park will host the games and sports activities that are included in the festival.

He added: "Sport is a way of life, and the labourers form an important segment of the community. The success of the first edition of the festival has paved way for the success of the second edition, which will also provide the opportunity to practice many of the various sports that it includes. While the Sports Festival is aimed to make the lives of the labourers active, it also aims to enrich the spirit of sports among the participants in competitive landscape, as well as unleash the sports' talents among the labourers. In addition, the festival aims to strengthen the relations with the leaders of work, create an ideal environment for labourers and open the door for them to exercise through the medium of this Festival. At Sharjah Sports Council, it is our goal to support such events that are in line with our strategic plans to spread the culture of sports in various segments of society, including the labourers belonging to various segments of the industry”.

All companies are entitled to adopt and sponsor the teams participating in the festival's competitions, which have been allocated prizes of more than AED 155 thousand, for the owners of the top centers in all games; where an amount of AED 60, 000 is particularly allocated for the teams securing the first place in football, and an amount of AED 20,000 for the volleyball’s winning team. Similarly, the basketball winning team will receive AED 35,000, while the winner in cricket will receive AED 30,000, and the winner in the hockey game will receive an amount of AED 10, 000. "

The fees for participating in football championship and basketball championship are up to 2000 dirhams each; while the fee for volleyball doesn’t exceed an amount of 1000 dirhams. Similarly, the charge for participation in cricket is 1500 dirhams, while the participation fee for hockey championship doesn’t exceed AED 500.

It is to be noted that last year, Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority organised a two-month sports labours’ festival, where participants were divided into several groups, which enabled them to compete amongst themselves as well as reach the first three centers of the championship.

Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority encourages all companies and institutions in Sharjah to contribute to the festival by providing its employees an opportunity to participate in the events of the festival, which usually takes place on the weekends.
