Coronavirus: UAE reports 765 new recoveries, 624 Covid-19 cases

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday announced 624 new cases of Covid-19, 765 cases of recovery and one death.

The new cases were detected through additional 44,000 tests.

The total number of infections, as on June 5, stand at 37,642 with 20,337 total recoveries. The death toll rises to 274.

The ministry called on the public to abide by the precautionary measures in place and following all necessary medical advice in order to avoid more infections.

As restrictions began to ease over the past few weeks, businesses and public spaces offices are reopening in the country, however the government has stressed on residents' commitment to precautionary measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

On Thursday, a new set of coronavirus guidelines for UAE hotels has been published by the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority as the country reopens its economy amid coronavirus pandemic.

UAE's two major airlines - Emirates and Etihad Airways - announced that they will be linking 49 destinations across Asia, Europe and Australia in the next 10 days as airlines increase flights and resume transits with the easing of restrictions on air travel. The UAE Government on Wednesday decided to resume transit flights by national carriers Etihad, Emirates, flydubai and Air Arabia via Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah airports.

Though an official re-opening date is yet to be announced by the Ministry of Education and private school regulators, heads of various private school groups in Dubai have expressed their readiness to re-open school campuses in September, following the summer holidays. Since the outbreak, schools and universities in the UAE have been closed since March 8.

Houses of worship in Dubai have also begun preparations to welcome worshippers in full swing. Houses of worship have put in place disinfection tunnels, social distance markers on floors, installed hand sanitiser dispensers and lowered the capacity of believers to ensure their safety.

Starting June 7, the workforce at UAE government departments working in headquarters of federal ministries, agencies and institutions will increase by 50 per cent. However, Dubai, 50 per cent workforce change was implemented last week.

Meanwhile, as many as 18,740 volunteers of 132 nationalities were enrolled in the UAE Volunteers national campaign in one month, authorities have said. The volunteers participated in 125 initiatives, including 98 field initiatives and 27 virtual. More than 13,100 resident volunteers supported the efforts of the frontline soldiers in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to 5,555 citizens.
