AMMAN- Syria on Tuesday appointed a new central bank governor, Issam Hazima, to replace his predecessor who was sacked last week over alleged mishandling of a currency crisis, state media said.

Hazima, one of two deputies of former governor Hazem Karfoul, is a French educated professor and a member of Syria's securities commission.
