A top visiting US official is on a mission to further develop the economic relationship with Bahrain and urged the kingdom to take advantage of its technological telecom advances.

US Under-Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and The Environment Keith Krach, speaking at a roundtable discussion at The Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay yesterday, said the two countries could build on their existing ties with its ‘clean and trusted’ 5G telecom technology, taking a snipe at rival Chinese offerings.

“The overall purpose of my mission in Bahrain, as I told the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, is to take the great partnership between our countries to the next level,” said Mr Krach.

“Whether it is the digital area, energy, infrastructure, commerce, small- and medium-size companies, education and research –all should be taken forward.

“This comes as we create an integrated plan to expand operations here. We see Bahrain as a great regional hub and a great place to do business.

“A clean telecom network and investment in other sectors sits well with Bahrain’s vision. We see tremendous opportunities here and ask ministries to give us a list of their priorities.”

Mr Krach said that would allow for number crunching and possible financial backing from a multi-billion dollar global development pot.

The GDN reported last week that Bahrain will continue to further bolster its trade opportunities with the US no matter what the outcome of next month’s highly-contentious presidential election.
