• The collaboration between SAP Co-Innovation Lab in the UAE and UPS in the UAE showcases zero emission last mile deliveries

Dubai: Ahead of Expo 2020 Dubai, UPS (NYSE:UPS) is testing electrically assisted quad-cycles for potential future deployment in the region.  Under a development initiative between UPS and SAP’s Co-Innovation Lab (COIL), a program will be developed to measure drivers’ energy use and monitor statistics on movement and real-time cycle data. The program is intended to help optimize cycle use and streamline maintenance and repair requests. The innovative quad-cycles will be displayed at SAP’s booth at GITEX Technology week in Dubai.

“Innovation and transformation are at the heart of UPS’s smart global logistics network. We are excited to evaluate these electric quad cycles for potential use during Expo 2020 Dubai to identify more sustainable, productive and effective operations in logistics,” said Luke Wake, director of automotive engineering & advanced technology group, UPS International. “Expo 2020 Dubai is all about the future and one in which UPS endeavors to play an important role in advancing a more sustainable delivery network. Our collaboration with SAP in its Co-Innovation Lab gives us better visibility on how to optimize efficient use of alternative delivery vehicles.”

The global SAP Co-Innovation Lab (COIL) facilitates project-based co-innovation with its members, enhancing the capabilities of SAP's partner and customer ecosystem.

“As the UAE adopts breakthrough technologies in transport and logistics, GITEX is an ideal platform to showcase through the SAP Co-innovation Lab how UPS can enhance fleet management and foster a greener, more sustainable future with the use of electrically assisted quad-cycles,” said Gergi Abboud, Senior Vice President and General Manager, SAP Middle East South. “Imagine being able to deliver the last mile with zero carbon footprint, to change life and behavior to support the planet, and to digitize bicycle tracking with augmented and virtual reality scenarios and predictive maintenance.”
