Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group (ESAG) held the second edition of ‘The Art of Dialogue’ - a series of cultural talks spearheaded by Muna Easa Al Gurg, Director of Retail, ESAG and designed to encourage artistic and creative explorations through discussions with experts. The event was held at the ESAG Design Hub at d3.

The second in the series, titled ‘A Collector’s Journey’, highlighted the importance of art as a form of identity, the UAE as a regional art hub and the impact of patronage in the arts community. A respected art patron, His Excellency Al Nusseibeh, Minister of State and Director of Sheikh Zayed’s Press Office discussed his own beginnings as a collector and future aspirations for the art scene in the Middle East. The discussion moderated by art advisor and cultural strategist Myrna Ayad, was attended by key representatives from art organisations in the Emirates and leading figures in the art world.

In the session, H.E. Al Nusseibeh discussed the importance of educating the future generation about the region’s rich arts and culture scene. The minister also spoke about the great strides of the UAE leadership in nurturing the local art scene and the creation of a viable ecosystem that fosters regional and international art. The dialogue also touched on how it is time for the private sector to join the conversation in a more sustainable way, making art more accessible and affordable and fostering the art culture across the wider society.

H.E. Al Nusseibeh said: “Art is a universal language that allows us to better understand our human condition. It is one of the major forces of cultural expression developed over centuries by humanity, on a perennial quest to explore the mysteries of our existence. It joins the whole range of other forms of creative energies, including music and literature that elevates our personal lives and make our world a better place to live in.

“I have always considered art as a central passion in my life and I am happy to see that the UAE has become such an acknowledged international hub for culture and arts over a short period of time. I collect art because I need to live surrounded by the works that I admire, that I can afford buying, and that continue to inspire me. I also believe it the duty of any art collector to support young artists, to buy their work, and to help make the world a nicer place to live in by patronising young talent that continues to find new forms of creative expression that moves us,” he added.

Muna Easa Al Gurg, Director of Retail at ESAG, said: “It is important for us as a collective to preserve the art and culture scene in the UAE, and one of the best ways to do so is to connect with like-minded individuals. Through the Art of Dialogue series, we are creating a space where art enthusiasts can discuss their love for art and ways to preserve it. Having H.E. Zaki Al Nusseibeh with us today is testament to our commitment of encouraging conversations around various facets of art and support of cultural communities.”

The Art of Dialogue series was launched in July 2019. The first panel, Art as Identity, welcomed a distinguished panel of luminaries from the regional art scene and included HE Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and artists Emirati Ammar Al Attar and Iraqi Rand Abdul Jabbar.
