Manama: Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the leading developers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced its support to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and its continued collaboration with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority to establish the world’s largest underwater theme park, which was recently announced during a press conference at the beginning of June 2019 and was attended by leading government officials, members of the public and professional divers and enthusiasts.

The theme park, which is located around 50km from Diyar Al Muharraq, aims to revive the marine ecosystem within an ideal environment helping it to grow and thrive as well as to ensure biodiversity in Bahraini waters. The theme park is set to become a hub for amateur and professional drivers from around the world, offering a unique tourism experience in a region known for its rich marine environment.

During the press conference held on the 10th of June to announce the commencement of works on this project, officials made statements regarding new features of the park, which will cover an area of 100,000 m2. The park’s main feature is a 70m long Boeing 747 that has been submerged to help preserve marine environment and its perpetuity. The second main feature of the park is a replica of a traditional Bahraini pearl merchant's house, which will be submerged next to the plane serving as a sustainable marine habitat, in harmony with the environment and a major attraction for divers from all over the world. Diyar Al Muharraq is overseeing the design and construction of the house.

Dr Maher Al Shaer, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq said: “Taking part in this National initiative comes in line with our efforts to revive marine life in the Kingdom and following the leading international standards for environmental sustainability as well as supporting the tourism sector. We have worked closely with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority to design and build a replica of a traditional pearl merchant’s house, covering an area of 900m2 as part of the world class park to attract divers.”

The park, set to open by August 2019, is a result of the partnership between several public and private entities, to create a unique tourist attraction ensuring marine life sustainability, in order to preserve Bahrain’s marine ecological system, by stimulating coral reefs as well as encouraging marine tourism. This project will become a major attraction to marine researchers and will raise awareness about the ever-growing importance for keeping marine habitats safe.
