Sharjah:

With the nationalization of jobs in the UAE accelerating by 200 per cent last year, the 21st National Career Exhibition 2019 that got under way at Expo Centre Sharjah on Wednesday is being keenly watched by all stakeholders.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the three-day fair was opened by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

Focusing on the triple themes of ‘career development’, ‘training’ and ‘future jobs’, the event is showcasing career opportunities for national youth in ministries & government organizations, local and federal government bodies, all leading banks, insurance firms, money exchanges, free zones and financial consultancies. It will run until February 8.

“Emiratization of jobs has increased considerably last year. But the number of Emirati employees is still considerably low. I am sure that all the participants at National Career Exhibition can do a great job in assisting Emirati graduates in identifying right job opportunities and facilitating their recruitment, training and career growth,” said H.E. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Expo Centre Sharjah.

According to government figures, the employment of nationals remains at less than 2% in the private sector, which comprises more than 62% of the total jobs in the country. Besides, new data has shown that within the GCC, the UAE has the largest number of expats in workforce at 91 per cent with nationals at just 8%.

“Our leaders have accorded top priority for the nationalization policy. The National Career Exhibition can be seen as an extension of government policies and initiatives that are aimed at providing a conducive environment for Emiratis to pursue a meaningful career in both public and private sector establishments,” said H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah.

The exhibition, which is organized by Expo Centre Sharjah in partnership with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies and the Sharjah Government’s Directorate of Human Resources with the Gold Sponsor being the Sharjah Islamic Bank , is expected to attract thousands of visitors from the UAE.

The opening day also saw the award presentation by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah for human resource development in the banking, insurance, banking, and finance sectors. Several participants at the exhibition are conducting on-the-spot interviews to recruit aspiring candidates, while some are offering admission to their exclusive training programmes.

The inauguration was also attended by H.E. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI and ECS, HE Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Sharjah Government’s Directorate of Human Resources, HE Jamal Al Jasmi, General Manager of EIBFS and Head of HR Development Committee in the Banking and Financial Sector, HE Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, and a number of heads and directors of federal and local departments and institutions, as well as members of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Chamber and bank executives.
