Abu Dhabi: California-based eScooter startup Qwikly Mobility Inc announced its official launch in Abu Dhabi during the Formula 1 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Yas Island. This launch makes Abu Dhabi the first city in the entire region to launch eScooter ride-sharing as a micro-mobility solution. Qwikly recently received approval from the Department of Transport (DOT) to commence its operations in the city.

Qwikly’s dockless eScooters are available for use on Yas Island at the F1 site and surrounding facilities from 22nd to 25th November 2018. Following the event, the eScooters will be available for the public on DOT approved locations of the Corniche and the World Trade Center, with plans to expand across the Emirate in collaboration with the Department of Transport.

Qwikly is offering a promotion during all F1 days, in collaboration with Department of Transport, to encourage use and education about dockless eScooters. All visitors for F1 will get their first ride free, for up to 25 minutes. The final pricing will evolve in coordination with DOT to serve the public while ensuring a quality service.

Qwikly has been working closely with the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport to bring an environment-friendly first-and-last-mile micro-mobility transportation alternative to the capital city. With a keen focus to reduce traffic and congestion as well as dependencies on fuel-driven modes of transportation, the entrance of Qwikly eScooters will promote the emergence of seamless multi-modal transit in Abu Dhabi.

Qwikly eScooters can be activated through official apps on iOS and Android. Each eScooter has a special QR code. After a quick registration process, each eScooter can be activated for use with a one-time unlocking fee, and riders will be charged a low rate for usage per minute. In the pilot phase, the eScooters will have a maximum speed of 15 kilometers per hour.

Speaking on the announcement of Qwikly’s Abu Dhabi launch, UAE Country Manager Mr. Ammr Shaladi said: “We are proud to support the vision of Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, to have an environment-friendly mode of first and last mile connectivity across the city. Qwikly eScooters will benefit the citizens by providing them an efficient, easy, and eco-friendly transportation option for short distance travel for work and pleasure.”
