Abu Dhabi – Agthia Group PJSC welcomed H.E. Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed AlMheiri, the UAE Minister of State for Food Security, at the Group’s flour and animal feed business Grand Mills to discuss the Group’s efforts in supporting the UAE’s national Future Food Security strategy and identify new avenues of collaboration.

During the meeting, Her Excellency discussed the need for a fish production line because of its direct impact on the production and quality of fish, and it accounts for 50 to 70% of the production costs in fish farming establishments.

During her visit, H.E. Mariam AlMheiri, together with H.E. Eng. Dhafer Ayed Al Ahbabi, Agthia Chairman and Tariq Ahmed Al Wahedi, Agthia Group CEO, discussed the progress being made towards achieving food self-sufficiency in the country, underlining the importance of private sector organizations such as Agthia working closely with the government to fulfil long-term plans and strategies to achieve food security.

H.E. Mariam AlMheiri said, “Agthia has demonstrated its commitment to ensure an uninterrupted supply and availability of flour and animal feed, two critical components of achieving food security in the UAE. Visiting a facility that was established by our late founding father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and witnessing firsthand Agthia’s commitment towards continuous progress without compromising quality is a testament to the strides we are making as a nation to achieve self-sufficiency.”

Her Excellency also praised Agthia's active partnership with international companies in the field of feed production such as Nutreco, a leader in animal nutrition including aquaculture feed with their Skretting brand.

H.E. Eng. Dhafer Ayed Al Ahbabi, Agthia Chairman, said, “We are honored to welcome Her Excellency Mariam AlMheiri to Grand Mills and showcase our efforts in supporting the country’s food security goals.”

Al Ahbabi added, “Since being established, Agthia has been working hand in hand with public sector and government partners to ensure the UAE continues making progress towards achieving national food security. Agthia’s commitment towards providing reliable food resources to the people of the UAE remains our number one priority and one that is deeply rooted in our Group.”

Tariq Ahmed Al Wahedi, Agthia Group CEO, said, “Driven by our commitment to the UAE’s food security, Agthia has continually expanded its local operations, increased its global footprint and diversified its product portfolio. Grand Mills flour and Agrivita animal feed have evolved over the years to meet changing consumer and market needs and ensure people in the UAE have steady access to these essential commodities. This growth journey is far from over as we are always keen on exploring new opportunities that can further our contribution to national food security in other areas such as aquaculture feed production.”

Al Wahedi added, “We are committed to continue playing our role in fulfilling the UAE’s current and future food needs, whether through feed production, or through the many essential products under Agthia’s umbrella such as our flagship product Al Ain Water.”

During her visit, Her Excellency AlMheiri toured the company’s Grand Mills facility including grain silos with 150 thousand metric tons of storage capacity.

Grand Mills, previously known as Flour Mills and Animal Feed Company, was established by the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1978 to produce quality flour for the UAE and the region. The company expanded into animal feed a few years later and is now one of the major flour and animal feed producers in the country.

Agthia is part of the Abu Dhabi Food Security Alliance along with eight other organizations in the UAE.
