GEO 2016, the largest petroleum geoscience conference & exhibition in the Middle East, opens on 7 March in Bahrain
Manama, Bahrain: Petroleum industry professionals and geoscientists from 50+ countries will converge at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre on Monday 7 March for the conference opening session of the 12th Middle East Geosciences Conference and Exhibition (GEO 2016).
The associated 6,000 square metre exhibition of oil and gas exploration products and services will open in a separate ceremony on Tuesday 8 March under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Bahrain His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
The conference ceremony and plenary session on 7 March assembles a panel of high ranking industry figures who will deliver their own perspective on this year's theme 'Today's Geoscience, Tomorrow's Energy.'

The conference opening ceremony on 7 March will begin with ministerial addresses from His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Energy, Bahrain, His Excellency Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Egypt and His Excellency Dr. Matar Al Neyadi, Undersecretary, Ministry of Energy, United Arab Emirates. More than 200 technical presentations and 120+ poster presentations designed to share the knowledge and experience of managing, operating and supplying companies will follow over the subsequent 3 days of the conference. Topics include human resources, advances in technologies, petrophysics, geological studies and hydrocarbon exploration in addition to special sessions.
GEO 2016 will also offer 5 panel sessions led by presidents, vice presidents, CEOs and managers of key players in the industry such as BP, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, IHS, Mubadala Development Company, Petroleum Development Oman, Schlumberger, Shell and Total amongst others. These topical sessions will cover long term strategies in unpredictable markets, emerging IT trends, integrated technologies, unconventional resources in the region and industry-academia collaboration.
New additions to the 2016 agenda include a special session entitled 'Women's Growing Role in the Energy Industry' led by top female industry professionals.
GEO 2016 also includes a robust programme of activities for young professionals and students representing 18 universities.
Robert Kuchinski, President of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Middle East Region and Senior Technical Adviser for formation evaluation in the Middle East / Africa Region for Weatherford, is planning to attend GEO for the fifth time. Describing GEO as "the premier geoscience conference in the region," he said the event offers numerous benefits to attendees.

These oil and gas deposits are being developed by NOCs that are committed to producing as much oil and gas as they can, using the most advanced technology and sophisticated techniques possible," Kuchinski said.
"As much of this technology and techniques are adapted from other parts of the world, a geoscientist in the Middle East gets exposure and learning opportunities from people all over the world," he said.
The parallel exhibition will cater to industry operators, service providers, academia and technology solution providers to share latest breakthroughs and solution-oriented innovations for everyday technical challenges. More than 130 companies from 20+ countries will be in attendance from 8 - 10 March.
Serving all areas of the oil and gas exploration industry, principal participants include national oil companies, international oil companies, suppliers, service providers and country pavilions from Egypt, North America and the UK.
