Leading innovative plastics solutions providers Borouge and Borealis strengthened their positions as long-term trusted partners of the global wire and cable industry with a full showcase of cutting-edge solutions for advanced insulation and cable protection applications at Middle East Electricity 2016 being held in Dubai from 1-3 March 2016.

The exhibition was officially opened by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, who visited the Borouge and Borealis joint stand and was briefed on the latest innovative plastics solutions that both companies offer to wire and cable manufacturers and customers.

As testament to their continued commitment to the development of the wire and cable industry, Borouge highlighted the completion of the high pressure low density polyethylene (LDPE) and the cross-linkable polyethylene (XLPE) compounding plants at Ruwais. Complementing the Borealis high pressure LDPE and XLPE plants at Stenungsund, Sweden, the new capacity expansion facilities will run on the same state of the art Borlink™ closed loop technology platform, delivering advanced, super clean XLPE solutions to cable makers, enabling them to manufacture quality end products in accordance with the highest industry standards.

"The Middle East Electricity exhibition provides a significant platform for Borouge to reinforce our continued commitment to the wire and cable industry and demonstrate our latest innovative plastics solutions for the industry including high value materials used to manufacture cables," said Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President Middle East Africa (MEAE), Borouge. "With the completion of the LDPE and XLPE capacity expansions, Borouge further enhances its position as a long term and reliable partner of choice."

Building on the excellent track record of Borlink™ HVDC solutions, another highlight at the Borouge and Borealis joined booth in the exhibition was the new Borlink™ LS4258DCE, an XLPE technology specially designed for the demanding High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) applications. Type testing has been completed at 525kV based on cables produced using this grade together with Borlink™ LE0550DC semi-conducting screen compound.  This industry leading performance is made possible by the unique properties of the insulation, which combine high levels of chemical and physical cleanliness to achieve a step change in DC electrical performance.

"The exhibition provides Borouge with key opportunities to engage our customers in the region, assess their needs and introduce them to our latest products tailored to meet the evolving needs of the global wire and cable industry," said Roland Janssen, Vice President Marketing Centre Wire & Cable, Borouge. "We will continue to provide the local and regional markets with sustainable solutions that create value through their optimal processing characteristics, minimal maintenance requirements, lower installation costs, longer product lifetimes and increased safety."
