The company participated at the 1st GPCA Responsible Care® Conference held in Dubai and sponsored the Gala Awards Dinner

Borouge, a leading petrochemical company in providing innovative, value creating plastics solutions, highlighted its journey of commitment to the principles of Responsible Care and continuous improvement of its Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance, at the 1st Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Responsible Care® Conference in which Borouge participated and sponsored.

Held at the Ritz DIFC in Dubai from 11-13 October 2015, "the 1st GPCA Responsible Care Conference is a significant gathering and it represents a unique platform for Borouge to demonstrate its commitment to Responsible Care throughout its operations and marketing activities locally and globally," said Abdulaziz Alhajri, CEO Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge). "Responsible Care is a journey, and therefore it should be with tremendous pride that the journey we and the regional industry collectively embarked upon in December 2009 has proven to be so successful in enhancing our reputation as 'responsible manufacturers' on the global stage."

Responsible Care is the chemical industry's global voluntary initiative under which companies work to improve HSSE performance across the entire value chain. Having signed a commitment to the Responsible Care® Global Charter in December 2009, Borouge was the first company in the Gulf region to be awarded the internationally recognised Responsible Care® RC 14001 certification in September 2013 for its entire global operations across the Middle East and Asia. The certification represents Borouge's approach to continuously improve its HSSE performance by focusing on environment protection, health and safety, process safety, community awareness and emergency response, distribution, product stewardship and security.

Alan Izzard, Borouge's Senior Advisor and Director Responsible Care & SQAS at GPCA, delivered a presentation on 'The GCC Responsible Care Journey and Future Direction' in which he highlighted GPCA's regional journey in Responsible Care from 2009-2015. He focused on the key achievements of the GPCA and its member companies, mapping out the future opportunities and challenges for the Gulf region to continue its journey to Responsible Care excellence throughout the industry supply chain. Izzard added that as a GPCA founding member, "we work closely with our stakeholders throughout the value chain to ensure the proper use and handling of our polymers in line with our Product Stewardship strategy and our continuous efforts to improve industry standards and maximise its contribution to the sustainable development of the industry and society."

Borouge hosted a Gala Dinner which featured the first GPCA Responsible Care® Awards ceremony that aimed to recognise and share the experiences of the companies and individuals who have exemplified leadership and outstanding performance based on the implementation of the Responsible Care programme over the preceding two years. Borouge was shortlisted for its "Sustainable Supply Chain Project" which it submitted under the 'Best Responsible Care Project' category.

The conference brought together senior executives, Responsible Care / HSSE leaders, government leaders and academia. Six sessions were also held during the conference focusing on 'RC Regulatory Framework and International Perspective', 'Renewable Energy', 'Process Safety', 'Chemical Management', 'Voice of Industry Partners' and 'Industrial Waste'.
