• Dubai delegation consisting of business leaders from the retail sector departs for the September 8-10 annual global event

• Over 1,300 senior retail leaders and industry experts will share new thinking, latest innovations, and debate the challenges and opportunities facing the future of the retail industry

• The three-day event is interspersed with the World Retail Hall of Fame, Future Retail Challenge, the Congress Closing Party and the World Retail Congress Awards

Dubai - A Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry-led trade mission comprising of the emirate's top business leaders from the retail sector leaves today (Monday) for Italy to participate in the 9th  World Retail Congress being held in Rome from September 8 to 10.

Since its inception in 2007, the World Retail Congress has grown quickly to become an important event for retailers across the region and all international retailers globally to discuss trends and issues faced by their industry.

Prominent speakers at the Congress include Olaf Koch, CEO, Metro Group, Dr Stephan Zoll, Vice President - Germany, eBay and Julie Hamilton, CCO, Coca Cola.

The delegation, consisting of Dubai-based business leaders and company officials from the retail sector, is led by H.E. Majid Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber. Also accompanying the delegation are H.E. Juma Mohammad Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary, UAE Ministry of Economy and H.E. Hamad Buamim, President & CEO, Dubai Chamber.

Other delegates include H.E. Majid Al Shamsi, Chairman, Union Coop, Adel Al Zarouni, Managing Director, Rivoli Group LLC, Ahmed Galal Ismail, CEO, Majid Al Futtaim Ventures, Khalid Al Falasi, General Manager, Union Coop, Mohi-Din BinHendi, Chairman, BinHendi Enterprises, Rajiv Suri, CEO, Majid Al Futtaim Fashion, and Vino El Khatib, Chief Marketing & Brand Officer, Majid Al Futtaim Holding.

The 9th edition of the Congress being held in Rome under the theme, Retail Transformation today, tomorrow and beyond, will discuss during its first day, the Retail Challenges while the second day is devoted to finding solutions to the challenges and the third day is dedicated to the future of retail.

The three-day World Chamber's Congress is interspersed with the World Retail Hall of Fame, the Future Retail Challenge where young retail talents exhibit new ideas and bring fresh thinking and the Congress Closing Party which promotes networking among the global retailers attending the Congress and felicitating them at the World Retail Congress Awards.

The 2014 edition of the Congress held in Paris, attracted over 1,350 senior retail leaders and industry experts from 73 countries including major UAE retailers such as Majid Al Futtaim, Landmark Group, Al Futtaim Group, Jumbo Electronics, Aswaaq.com, Apparel Group and many more.

Commenting on the participation of Dubai Chamber delegation in the 9th session of the Congress in Rome, Ian McGarrigle, Chairman, World Retail Congress, informed that the Congress looked forward to receiving the Dubai Chamber delegation which includes prominent retail leaders who will participate in the important discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing the future of the retail industry.

Over the three-days of the Congress, the Dubai delegates will have a busy schedule attending the breakfast briefings, plenary sessions and leadership programmes besides meeting and interacting with key global retail leaders, speakers and decision-makers on the sidelines of the Congress and during the dinner hosted by the UAE Ambassador to Italy and the closing ceremony.

The trade mission, which is organised as part of Dubai Chamber's objectives to support the development of business and to promote Dubai as an international business hub, provides the delegates an opportunity to enhance their competitiveness and to keep pace with latest developments in the retail world and to seek new horizons of cooperation with global players.
