ABU DHABI – Concluding a series of events organized to highlight the global challenges in the wake of Covid-19, as part of its Strategic Dialogue E-Forum, TRENDS Research & Advisory is organizing an E-Discussion on Wednesday (May 20) at 9 pm UAE time to highlight the various dimensions of cyber-security crisis management and the lessons learned from the pandemic.

This E-Discussion is a unique and innovative online gathering of international experts to examine the relationship between the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the need to maintain adequate cyber-security during crisis management.

The key issues to be discussed will include the challenge of maintaining adequate cyber-security for home working, ensuring that social media is not subject to disruption and criminal activities, the role of governments in managing cyber-security risks, maintaining essential public services, and using cyber-security tools to control and suppress Covid-19.

Leading the discussion will be Mr. Muntaser Bdair, COO of SecurityMatterz, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who will shed light on cyber-security from the perspective of securing data and businesses.

Mr. Naeem S. Musa, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), United States, will share tips for remote working taking into account the cyber-security threats during Covid-19.

Mr. Andrew Staniforth, Director of Saher-Europe and Non-Resident Fellow, Counter-Terrorism, at TRENDS, United Kingdom, will highlight the various aspects of organizational resilience and the combatting of Covid-19 cyber threats.

Prof. Ernesto Damiani, the Director of Khalifa University Center for Cyber-Physical Systems (C2PS) and the Director of Information Security Center Electrical and Computer Engineering & EBTIC, United Arab Emirates, will add another dimension to the discussion, highlighting the lessons in cyber-security PsyOp during the Covid-19 crisis.

The E-Discussion will be moderated by Ms. Emina Osmandzikovic, Researcher at the TRENDS Research & Advisory and will be live-streamed on TRENDS YouTube channel and other social media platforms.

The key questions to be analyzed during the discussion include:

  • How can individual home networks and devices connected with workplaces be secured so that they do not compromise office networks?
  • What can governments and the private sector do to strengthen cyber-crime laws and protect businesses and consumers from frauds, including hacks and phishing emails?
  • Are there adequate safeguards in place to prevent hackers from exploiting Covid-19 by using tools such as ransomware to obstruct testing and patient recovery?
  • Can surveillance networks, drones, and facial recognition technology help detect and isolate individuals infected with Covid-19?
