More than 60,000 Bahrainis working in the private sector have benefited from the government scheme to shoulder 50 per cent of their salaries.

Labour and Social Development Ministry Under-Secretary Sabah Al Dosary said the relief package also covered around 10,000 private sector firms.

In a statement to Akhbar Al Khaleej, he said the ministry is aware of all affected firms, adding that a detailed list has been referred to the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO).

Mr Al Dosary, also SIO board member, ruled out any layoffs of citizens in the private sector during the government-support programme which aims to maintain the stability of the labour market.

He announced that funds would be deposited this month in the accounts of affected companies which will pay their respective employees on time.
