Veteran Indian journalist Vinod Dua, 67, passed away on Saturday following health complications months after recovering from Covid-19.

His daughter and actress Mallika took to social media to announce the news.

He was undergoing treatment at intensive care unit at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. Earlier this year, he had contracted Covid-19 and was hospitalised when his condition deteriorated.

Dua and his wife were admitted to a hospital in Gurgaon. He lost his wife, radiologist Padmavati 'Chinna' Dua, in June after a prolonged battle with Covid.

The hospital authorities had issued a statement earlier. "Shri Vinod Dua is presently under treatment at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. In view of his critical condition, he has been admitted to the intensive care unit where his condition is being monitored by a team of senior doctors," news agency PTI reported quoting the hospital.

A pioneer in television journalism in India, Dua worked with Doordarshan and NDTV for the larger part of his journalistic career besides doing shows on other TV channels and online portals, according to an India Today.

He was awarded the Padma Shri for Journalism in 2008 by the Government of India.In June 2017, for his lifetime achievement in the field of journalism, Mumbai Press Club awarded him RedInk Award, which was presented to Vinod by Devendra Fadnavis, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra
