A consortium comprising Paris-based Veolia, a global leader in resource management and recovery, and its key partners - Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq) and AlAmwal AlKhaleejiah AlThania (Amwal AlKhaleej) - has been named as the preferred bidder for the Jeddah Airport 2 ISTP (independent sewage treatment plant) project.

On completion, the Jeddah 2 ISTP will have a treatment capacity of 500,000 cu m per day, said a statement from Saudi Arabia's Water and Electricity Company (WEC).

The Jeddah Airport 2 project will be developed under a 25-year sewage treatment agreement (STA), under which the sewage capacity will be provided by the National Water Company (NWC).

As per the deal, the consortium will be responsible for the development, financing, engineering, procurement, construction, implementation, ownership, operation, maintenance and transfer of the plant.

The project is likely to include the development of the greenfield Jeddah Airport 2 STP under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, in addition to the acquisition, refurbishment, operation and transfer of the existing 350,000 cu m per day Jeddah Airport STP, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
