DUBAI, 18th December, 2013 (WAM) -- Organized by Datamatix, the 5th GCC Smart Government and Cities Portals Conference concluded successfully on its second day at the Burj Al Arab Hotel. The conference, hosted in its 5th successful year, focused on the necessity of citizen-centricity and total people involvement in designing smart government portals.

The day started off with a session on GCC smart government portals' challenges in achieving total e-People involvement and e-Public private partnership, by Christian Farioli, Digital Marketing Director of Digital Marketing Institute, Middle East. He emphasised the necessity of citizen engagement that would result in improved project conceptualisation and decision making, including identification of services, definition of service levels, identification of preference for channels of service access, and appropriate process re-engineering. He also emphasised how PPP contributes to sustainability of smart government and stressed the need to employ PPP as a tool for meeting its obligations to both citizens and governments.

It was followed by a presentation on Smart Government Portals- Best practices by Amit Vyas, Co-founder and CEO of Nexa, that discussed the social signals and the convergence of social media, website optimisation and search engines.

The networking session was followed by a panel discussion on smart government portals' latest methodologies and delivery. The panel, moderated by Andrew Thomas, Managing Director , Nexa and chaired by Christian Farioli, Digital Marketing Director of Digital Marketing Institute Middle East, included Ashraf Kanjo, Head of Corporate Digital Marketing, RLG Communications Ltd; Mark Cijo, Co-Founder and Director, Brawnycode Techno Solutions Pvt Ltd., and Amit Vyas, Co-founder and CEO, Nexa, discussed modern day web optimisation and web analytics trends and focused on the most recent and latest strategies initiated by the government in social media.
