Maintenance work on three sewage stations has been completed, it was announced.

This was part of a project to carry out maintenance work on 32 main and side sewage pumping stations, including three in Muharraq, 19 in the Capital Governorate, seven in the Northern Governorate and three in Southern Governorate.

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry sanitary drainage planning and projects director Fathi Abdulla Fare’a also revealed that work is ongoing on a fourth sewage station.

“We had chosen 32 main and side sewage pumping stations to conduct maintenance work on,” he said in a statement yesterday.”

These stations will be equipped with new pumps, internal tubes, valves, electric control panels, control systems and sensors, and some civil work will be carried out on some stations.

The revamp project is aimed at increasing the efficiency and ensuring the sustainability of these stations, as well as reducing breakdowns which often result in flooding of neighbourhoods.

“In the past three years, maintenance work has been carried out on 103 sewage pumping stations around Bahrain, at a cost of BD2.5 million,” said Mr Fare’a.
