Steps to implement the natural gas delivery project in the New Valley governorate are set to begin soon, according to Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

The project, the first of its kind in the governorate, is set to use compressed natural gas (CNG) technology.

The announcement came as El Molla attended the signing of a cooperation protocol for the project to implement the required facilities to deliver CNG to the New Valley governorate.

The protocol was signed by New Valley Governor Mohamed Al-Zamlout, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) President Magdy Galal, and Taqa Arabiya President Khaled Abu Bakr. Chairperson of Qalaa Holding Ahmed Heikal and EGAS Vice-President Ahmed Mahmoud were also present at the protocol’s signing.

El Molla added that the CNG delivery project comes as part of his ministry’s keenness to ensure that natural gas is quickly made available and provided to New Valley residents.

He explained that CNG is an ideal solution to supply and feed the governorate with natural gas, given the current challenges facing the extension of the national natural gas network.

El Molla directed the project implementing agencies to work quickly towards completing all steps and procedures for the project in light of its importance for the governorate. This will also ensure that natural gas can be delivered for the first time to housing units across the governorate.

The protocol ensures cooperation in implementing a project to deliver natural gas using feeding technologies at main stations. It will also ensure that all necessary studies and procedures are carried out in preparation for the fuel’s delivery to 14,000 customers in Kharga Oasis as part of the project’s first stage.

This will be expanded upon in further stages, that will see natural gas delivered to households, as well as commercial and industrial customers, across New Valley.

Al-Zamlout said that the provision of natural gas is currently a top priority for the governorate, and is an important turning point in the services provided to the people. It will ensure that New Valley Governorate residents will now be able to have a supply of natural gas directly to their homes, as an easier alternative to the current system of purchasing butane gas cylinders.
