Coronavirus: UAE reports 293 new Covid-19 cases, 1036 recoveries

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday reported 293 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1036 recoveries.

The new cases were detected through additional 48,000 tests.

MoHAP also reported two new deaths today, taking the tally to 337.

The total number of cases as on July 17 stands at 56,422, while total recoveries are 48,488.

UAE leaders and authorities have applauded health workers for the rise in recoveries, resulting in the closure of several field hospitals across the country - as well as many hospitals being declared Covid-free after all recovered patients were discharged.

In a milestone that vindicated the UAE's strategy against Covid, not a single Covid-19 death was reported yesterday for a second day in the country. Health experts attributed the achievement to the outstanding crisis management and proactive steps taken by the country's leaders. More than four million PCR tests have so far been carried out nationwide, with the UAE ranking first globally in the number of Covid-19 screenings done per capita.

The UAE has stolen a march over other countries in the quest for a vaccine against Covid-19 with the launch of final phase 3 human trials. The clinical trial will last for about three to six months. The trails will rope in 15,000 volunteers to further test the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. Volunteers may now register on the website 4humanity.ae.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi is all set to reopen more public parks and beaches in the capital, Al Ain and Al Dhafrah at 40 per cent capacity as part of the second stage of reopening following an extensive sterilisation process.
