More than 80 per cent of the airport modernisation programme has been completed, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister and Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) chairman Kamal Mohammed announced.

He pointed out that construction work on the new passenger building is proceeding at a faster pace than that of similar projects in the region.

The minister was speaking at a workshop organised by BAC in co-operation with Civil Aviation Affairs, charged with regulating and supervising all aviation activities in Bahrain.

Present were ministry’s Civil Aviation Affairs Under-Secretary Mohammed Thamer Al Kaabi and senior representatives of BAC and Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide, which is providing a comprehensive Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) programme for the new terminal.

“This workshop is part of ongoing co-ordination efforts among all parties involved in the ORAT programme’s ongoing operational readiness trials, which will ensure the new passenger terminal building’s various functions, systems, and procedures are ready for its launch in the third quarter of this year,” the minister said.

“Achieving the modernisation programme’s important goals hinges on the success of the ORAT programme, which is why we must continue to take steady and co-ordinated steps to ensure its progress.”
