Route 2020, a 15-kilometre extension of the Dubai Metro Red Line starting from Jebel Ali Station to Expo 2020 Station, will open to the public in September.

The 11 billion-dirham project that will facilitate travel for commuters visiting the exhibition site of the World Expo 2020, was inaugurated on Wednesday by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.

The route has seven stations including one interchange station with the Red Line, one Iconic Station at the site of Expo, three elevated stations and two underground stations. It is expected to serve 270,000 passengers.

“Our objective is to provide people everything that ensures their wellbeing, stability and happiness and establish a prosperous future for the coming generations,” the Dubai ruler was quoted as saying by Dubai Media Office.

It said that the opening of the major transport link will bring a host of technical, economic and investment benefits to Dubai.

“Economically, the project will appreciate the rental and sales values of residential and commercial properties within 250 to 500 metres of metro stations by 20 to 30 percent,” it said.

Demand for properties along or near the new Metro route was already high last year. According to property portal Dubizzle, areas like Discovery Gardens, Dubai Investment Park and Jumeirah Golf Estates were the most popular residential communities in 2019.
