Saudi Arabia implemented the new dependents tax from July 1, as stated in the report, Gulf expatriates mull future with taxes, published in Gulf News on September 3. This means that foreigners living in the country will have to pay a fee of SR100 (Dh98) for each dependent per month this year, SR200 in 2018, and SR300 and SR400 in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

In light of this, we asked our online readers, what was their biggest financial worry? The cost of living and not being able to save any money is what bothers most respondents.

Raheena Musthafa, a Dubai resident, took the decision to leave Saudi Arabia and move to the UAE after this new tax.

She wrote on the official Gulf News Facebook page: I cancelled my visa and Im going to miss my first home. Though I moved to Dubai, I miss Saudi Arabia.

Stefano Ferrara, another Dubai resident, wrote: People should reduce spending and be mindful of what they can afford with what they earn, leaving something on the side. Thats the solution.
