Charity organisations in Qatar, led by the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) have completed projects valued at QR25m, fulfilling Phase I of the project to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the residents of Aleppo battling for survival due to severe humanitarian crisis. The initiative was launched as a fund raising campaign “Support-Aleppo” following the directive of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to cancel all National Day celebrations in solidarity with the people of Aleppo due to the crisis.

The project was financed by donation collected by five charity organisations in Qatar that participated in the campaign — Qatar Charity, Eid Charity, Qatar Red Crescent Society, Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and Afif Charity, for hundreds of thousands of displaced people from east Aleppo to northern part of Syria.

A total of 922,366 displaced people including children, women and senior citizens benefitted from the Phase I projects. They were provided food, clothing, medicines and shelters. Some 431,000 displaced people benefitted from health projects implemented jointly by Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) and Eid Charity.

Qatar Charity provided ready-to-eat food packets and food baskets to 366,000 people.  Afif Charity distributed bags of winter clothes to 120,366 people.

More than 5,000 displaced people are expected to benefit from the camps set up by RAF at Talat Al Kamona, Sarmada, Rif-Idlib. The camp will include 1,000 tents equipped with all necessary gears to accommodate about 1,000 displaced families. The project costs QR5m.

All the five Qatar-based charities participated in the campaign at the end of January at Ghazi Antab city along the border of Turkey-Syria. The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from Qatar and Turkey. Some 87 trucks loaded with aid like foods, medicines, medical equipment, tents, clothes, and heaters took part in teh campaign.
