Muscat: A memorandum of cooperation has been signed between Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and National Energy Center to develop and implement an experimental smart city project in the residential and leisure complex of Ras Al Hamra.

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA), said: "PDO has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the National Energy Center to develop and implement an experimental smart city project in the residential and leisure complex of Ras Al Hamra that is affiliated with the company ."

The cooperation between the two parties aims to promote and encourage the exchange of experiences in the field of smart cities, such as smart water meters, street lighting, waste management, smart urban water, energy metering and smart irrigation.

The National Energy Center, which specialises in Internet of Things solutions and smart city projects, will work with the Ras Al Hamra team to develop a system for managing and monitoring sustainable smart infrastructure facilities to achieve a significant reduction in water and energy consumption in order to reduce the impact on the environment and improve the quality of life while reducing the associated costs. It is planned to be completed in 2022.
