Saudi Arabia has invited bids from investors for a waterfront development project in the Eastern port of Al-Khobar, a local newspaper said on Thursday.

The project involves the construction of a shopping mall, amusement facilities, restaurants, and a hotel, the Arabic language daily Aliqtisadia said.

The Eastern region's municipality has asked investors to submit "applications of interest" for the project, the report said.

A number of applicants will then be pre-qualified to bid for the project before Jan 2, it said, adding that a company or a consortium of firms would be selected.
