Oman’s Salalah Sanitary Drainage Services Company (SSDS) has tendered for the third time a project to produce power using a combination of bio-methanisation and solar photovoltaic technology.
The state-owned SSDS provides drainage and water treatment facilities for the city of Salalah.
The project is tendered under the finance, design, build, own, operate and transfer (FDBOOT) model and the client will wet lease the power plant and consume the power it generates, a tender invite said.
A company official told Zawya that the power plant will use sludge as a feedstock and the winning bidder will decide the optimum combination for power generation based on its assessment but declined to comment on other aspects.
The project was tendered twice in September 2020 and November 2020 and cancelled.
Documents are available till 9 June 2021. Bid submission closes on 25 July 2021and priced bids are due to be opened on 23 September 2021.
This is the first time a hybrid renewable energy power project using sludge as feedstock is being contemplated in Oman. In December 2020, Mazoon Diary signed an agreement with Ejaad and Oman LNG to build the country’s first biogas to power generator using cow waste as feedstock.
Under the restructuring of Oman’s water and waste water sectors effective from 1 June 2021, SSDS has been merged with Dhofar Power Company and the Directorate General of Water-Dhofar to form Dhofar Integrated Services Company, which will be responsible for potable water distribution and wastewater management in the Dhofar Governorate.
