Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been crowned the British Premier League's best player of the year at the English PFA Awards.

The Egyptian fought off competition from Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne to scoop the prestigious individual prize on Sunday night.

Salah scored his 31st league goal in Liverpool's 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, equaling Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alan Shearer for the most Premier League goals scored in a 38-game season.

The forward has three Premier League games remaining and could match Andy Cole's record of 34 goals in a 42-game season set in 1993-94.

He joined the Reds from Roma last summer for 37 million pound sterling and has quickly established himself as a club icon.

Salah is the second Arab player to snatch the prestigious award after the Algerian player Riyad Mehraz who won the award in 2016. (end) kd.ibi
